Informatik Werkstatt develops ViewMondo® and UpCom® – software that collects, validates and makes usable the readings of fixed and mobile sensor stations for meteorology, winter road maintenance and airports.
One continuous chain – from the sensor to the decision
Together, ViewMondo and UpCom cover the whole path of the sensor data. No break between roadside and control room.
Road-weather, meteorological and hydrological sensors plus cameras – along motorways, at airports, at gauging stations. Fixed or mobile (MARWIS).
Data logger on a CloudGate router: reads Lufft-UMB, SDI-12 and Modbus-RTU, computes channels and converts to the target format.
Collects the readings of the whole network, checks them with QualiCheck and shows the map, charts, camera and – where available – forecasts.
Winter service, airports and control rooms – plus onward delivery via BUFR, CSV/FTP or the ViewMondo API.
Two products, one data flow
Run together, used separately. UpCom gets the readings out of the sensors; ViewMondo turns them into something you can act on.
ViewMondo®
The platform for visualising and analysing environmental and road sensor data – for fixed and mobile sensors. Pure HTML/JavaScript, runs without plugins in any modern browser, with apps for iOS and Android. Built on more than 25 years of experience.
Map & tree
All stations on OpenStreetMap with live readings, plus a tree view across groups and individual stations. One parameter – the road condition, for example – shown right on the station icon.
Station view
Pictograms, gauges and tables for fixed and mobile sensors, a camera image per site, sample-by-sample time navigation.
Charts & export
Real-time and historical data as line and bar charts, sensors you can show or hide, a table and CSV export – also pushed via (s)FTP to external servers.
QualiCheck
Rule-based quality checking with a configurable rule set. Implausible values are flagged and are available for further analysis.
CrossCheck
Compares mobile and fixed sensor data – spots drifting sensors early and supports proactive maintenance.
Forecast
The general location-based weather forecast is shown alongside each station. A forecast tailored specifically to road weather is in the works.
Alarms & events
Freely configurable alarm rules with e-mail and SMS notification, plus an event log for quality control.
MARWIS
Data push from the mobile Lufft MARWIS every second, measurement drives on the map, replay and sample by sample.
ICAO GRF
Dedicated runway condition reports (RCAM,RCR) for airports in ICAO GRF compliant (SNOWTAM) format.
Operation & integration
As SaaS via Kipp & Zonen or licensed on your own server. Roles from Data Analyst to Site Administrator, direct polling via NTCIP, UMB, TLS/TLSoIP and MSSI, an open JSON REST API and custom calculated sensor channels.
UpCom®
A Linux software plugin on the Option CloudGate router family that stores, polls and processes RWIS, meteorological and hydrological sensor data right at the roadside. As a plugin for ViewMondo, or standalone as a data bridge to any target platform.
Sensor input
Connection via Lufft-UMB, SDI-12 and Modbus-RTU – from air temperature, wind and visibility to road condition, water film, friction and water level.
Conversion
Raw values are translated into the format the target platform needs – from CSV/text to standardised traffic protocols.
Calculated channels
Virtual channels via value mapping, rolling min/max/average/modal values or a Python script for complex derived quantities.
Data logger
Storage on microSD, automatic backfilling of gaps via the ViewMondo API, interactive CSV download from the device.
Camera images
Grab images from http(s) cameras, buffer them, forward them and archive them on microSD.
Alarms & relays
Local alarm rules; relays via Modbus-TCP or GPIO – to switch warning beacons, variable message signs or signals.

Engineers by passion
We are a team of experienced engineers who joined forces in 1998. Out of projects in measurement and control technology, logistics and vehicle technology, one focus has emerged over the years: software for capturing, transmitting and analysing sensor data.
Today more than 20 years of experience goes into ViewMondo and UpCom – our own products for road weather, airports, meteorology and hydrology. Developed in close cooperation with, and distributed by Lufft/Kipp & Zonen. Alongside this, we continue to strengthen teams as a development partner.
